I was completely overwhelmed when my daughter was born with special needs. She has a rare genetic defect and one of her primary issues is severe low muscle tone. At 6 months she was not attempting to roll, reaching for toys or holding anything in her hands. Within weeks of Christy providing Occupational Therapy services, I started to see significant changes. Christy is incredibly knowledgeable and has a gentle nature that immediately put me at ease. She involved me in the therapy sessions and taught me things I could do with my daughter daily in play to help her progress. My daughter’s therapy sessions were always play based and never seemed like work. At the end of the day when I am exhausted from trying to keep up with my daughter, I thank God for Christy Carney!
My son has a sensory processing disorder. After years of seeing Occupational Therapists and Psychologists and still not truly understanding how to help our son, we were referred to Christy Carney. Her assessment was thorough and she was able to analyze which specific areas were problems for him. She was also able to explain sensory processing in a way that was understandable to us so we could help our son. She worked with us to create a sensory diet for him at home and school. At 7, my son is actually learning to recognize when he needs sensory breaks. Working with Christy has helped our family to understand sensory processing disorder and has helped build our son’s attention at school, self esteem, and social skills.
Kelly Steen has volunteered weekly for the past two years working with students at a local elementary school. Kelly provides an enriching and enthusiastic environment for students who need additional support in the areas of phonological awareness and other literacy skills. Kelly communicates regular updates about the progress of students and has been reliable and resourceful with her work. My students are always excited with the lessons and activities that she shares with them and I am grateful to have such a committed volunteer.
At 18 months, my daughter began working with Kelly as a child who was hardly speaking and was extremely frustrated. I am very grateful that she has improved tremendously. Kelly created a fun and comfortable environment for her while practicing speech and language skills. She has helped our family by providing activities and games that can easily be incorporated into our daily routine. Kelly is very compassionate and thorough, and I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a Speech and Language therapist for their child.
